Happy Birthday Honey!

dear mazi,

today's post is about mom's birthday.

how time flies, honey. we maybe 36 but sure it still feels like we are in our 20's. we may not be as active (?!) as we were during those years but the feeling is still as intense and passion-filled!

soon, we will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary which somehow still seemed like yesterday when we had that momentous event.

mazi is turning nine next month which as a very young kid already showed so much maturity and promise. making waves in everything she does!

in a little over 4 months, the newest addition to the family will come. oh, how excited we are!

from the day to day grind and challenges we faced when we were starting out in the phils, to the biggest move that we made here in canada, it has been and will always be a testament to our love and desire to be together until the end.

we have met so many trials along the way, we weathered them all! life as it is, is already full of mysteries, yet we do conquer and celebrate them! as always, any change is a welcome to our daily lives.

honey, for the past 18 years that i have known you, i have always focused on what i liked about you! celebrate each other's triumphs and joys! held your hand and always at your side during trying times. savored every moment of romance, cheers on every accolades thrown at you!

oh how beautiful this union is. i could never ask for a better person to be with as you are already chosen as the best one for me! i will never say we complement nor complete each other since that is not the case for us. instead i would say, we are made to be together, sharing every breath, touching each lives, making a difference... oh what a joy!

honey, simply put, I LOVE YOU!

balikbayan

dear mazi,

on friday, we will be going home. we will be going to the Philippines! after more than five years, we are finally pushing our plan to go and visit our home country. this is really exciting!

we have so many things planned out to accomplish in this trip. from meeting with friends and relatives to trips to glorious beaches and various interesting locations.

it will also a good time for you to know more about the culture and the lives back where we started. this is one way of us letting you get in touch with your roots and also get learnings on how different your life here in Canada compared to the other kids there.

im pretty sure we will have loads of fun. with all relatives and friends who will go out of their way just to give us a wonderful vacation/experience.

it will be a very expensive trip but i know it is going to be worth every single penny.

im also very excited to see my mom, its been five years since i came back.

we will try to document this trip as detailed as possible, with pictures, videos and what nots.

this is going to be awesome.

cheers!

love,

dad

mom's 25 random

dear mazi,

as promised, here's mom's 25 random things (she also posted this in her facebook account):

1 - I wonder why we have to work to survive and study again after studying for 15 years of our life.
2 - I miss my college friends, the true friends that I have. After school, we all worked in SGV and even after SGV we still get-together on weekends and special occasions. There is no dull moment, our fave pastime: make fun of other people.
3 - I remember always cutting classes in my first 2 yrs in univ, we'll spend it at the coop eating fishballs and squidballs. Since we're allowed up to 10 absences, we'll cut up to 8 classes per subject...hahahahha
4 - I have always been tardy to school from elem to college. REally notorious for being tardy. In HS, they lock the gate then late students have to repeat the flag ceremony and morning prayers. I was even sent to the principal for too much tardiness...hahahaha. In univ, I always get a morning jog from Espana to Commerce bldg trying to caltch my first class. Hingal na hingal pag pasok ng classrom!
5 - I never really made up my mind what I really wanted to be, I'm not a career person but fate led me to be. I'm happy with what I've accomplished so far.
6 - I started goingt to school and riding the jeepney in grade 4. Mama will take me to ride then I'm on my own.
7 - In HS, there was a time the teacher was late and the class was so noisy and I was one of the people sent to the dean's office to explain...leader in noisy list!
8 - In univ, there was a time a lot of students were absent in the class and the profesor asked me to explain the following day, bakit laging ako hindi naman ako class president? hahahaha
9 - I have the perfect cheatmate in 1st and 2nd yr college, if it's multiple choice, we have ballpen positioning for A, B C, D and E!
10 - When I was a kid, I remember every summer time, the whole Quejado clan will go to my lolo's resthouse in Zambales, there we'll play blackjack the whole day if we're not in the beach then if we lose, our lolo will give us back our money.
11 - I remember every time we'll go to BAguio, my lolo Quejado always buy lots of tinapa and we'll always have it for breakfast with lots of tomatoes at nagkakamay pa!
12 - When I was yournger, I'd always have green mangoes for breakfast with fish sauce and spicy vinegar.
13 - I remember when Mama cooks something with soup, she has to put extra soup 'cause I'd always have 2 to 3 servings of it.
14 - I love ketchup growing up but not that much anymore.
15 - If there is something I will change in my physical appearance, it would be my skin. At 35, I'm still fighting pimples. I hate it!
16 - Up to now, I still remind zoi about not letting me copy his answers in exams, I tell him he's selfish..hahahahah.
17 - I have always been scared of sleeping alone. If I'm still not married up to now, I'd probably had a heart attack already.
18 - I want to have another baby so Mazi has someone growing up with her and they can take care of each other when we're gone.
19 - I'm so thankful I have Zoi for my husband 'cause I don't think anybody else can stand me...hahahahha...
20 - I remember when I was attending my review classes for the board exam, we eat spaghetti with ketchup sauce (cause it was cheap) in a house in front of Shakeys and we said if we pass, we'd eat the spaghetti in Shakeys. We passed but we didn't go back to that Shakeys anyways.
21 - My family is my heart and soul. I love and I live because of them.
22 - I want to learn how to swim but I don't know how. I don't want to go to swimming classes at my age.
23 - My daughter is the sweetest person. She'd really show you how much she loves you. She'd make me breakfast in bed every now and then, usually cereals cause that what she knows to prepare. When I'd go home before, Mazi always have a card for me with I love you.
24 - I wish I win the lotto. I'd give money to my family, friends and relatives so they don't have to work. Then I will build schools in the Phils for the poor children.
25 - I want to retire in a home by the water, have morning walks with zoi and watch the sunset. I want to retire at age 40!!!

Ang haba pala ng random things ko! Sensya na ngayon lang ako nagsulat.

am i so different from mom?

love you,

dad

25 random things about me and mommy

dear mazi,

i know, i know, i am yet to finish my previous post but i will get to that later or sooner... anyway, a week or two ago, i was tagged in this 25 random things by abbie (mom's cousin). i decided to put mine here and so is mom's coz we thought it will be cool. here it goes:

this is dad's:

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.(To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.)

1. being the youngest in a brood of 12, i've always yearned to be called kuya. (like, koya koya, wag po!!! hehehehe)
2. when i was in elementary and high school, i always get into trouble with the teachers. my being opinionated and direct were always the cause.
3. i grew up in a far flung barrio in bicol where "petromax" and "gin bottle with gas" were used at nighttime. electricity only came about during the latter part of my childhood (like when i was 10). i think this was the reason why most families in the province have at least 10 kids.
4. when i was a kid, we loved playing "taguan" and "tubigan". we also played "tumbang preso" and "syato".
5. i am scared of heights, i mean terrified of heights. and im scared of riding all those roller coasters and ferris wheel.
6. i started drinking alcohol and got so wasted when i was 14. i learned to drink beer (as in bottles and bottles of beer) from my papa dodie. when malou and i were still dating, i end up going home really late coz i drink with my "future father-in law" til wee hours in the morning. (you know until we finish all those cases and cases of beer, after all his friends have gone home. 7. ive always wanted to be taller like at lest 5'10". i get so insecured of my height and my skin color before. i am now so happy and contented with my color and height. one of my worst fear is to lose all my hair. i keep on telling malou to start saving for my hair transplant.
8. when i was in high school, ive always wanted to become an engineer. being an auditor/accountant, one of my dreams is to finish graduate school in one of the best business schools in the US (wharton would really be nice).
9. maybe regret is not the right word, but i should have put more time and effort studying when i was in university.
10. i know that most of the people i met think of me as "antipatiko" and "suplado". i am not very good at making friends and starting a conversation.
11. i am a mama's boy. i miss my "inay", hopefully we will get to see her this spring.
12. i used to be very good in math (operative word is used). having a great teacher and coach in math during my elementary and high school days made me what i am today (not that i am something).
13. i used to join math and writing contests when i was in elementary and high school. i got to travel different provinces (in the phils) because of this. one of my entry in a writing contest about electricity won and was read over the radio many times over.
14. high school was the great. university was even better, i met my wife in uni.
15. i love/adore my daughter. we tickle-fight almost every night and she gets upset everytime i say no when she wants to play.
16. i still wonder how my parents were able to bring up the 12 of us. (not including those miscarriages). though i know that my older siblings worked early in life and didnt pursue further schooling after high school because of financial reasons.
17. i am a probinsyano and will always be a probinsyano. of course i am proud of it.
18. i hate people who looks down on other people because of the color of their skin, the rank in the workplace, their economic status, etc.
19. i work hard, i play harder and i pray the hardest.
20. i am a very emotional person. i cry easily. but i dont cry over sad movies or anything like that.
21. i never win in raffle or anyting of that sort. i get what i want by working hard.
22. ive always wanted to work in an office setting, at a young age of 7, i already said to myself and to an aunt that i will not live in the barrio and have planned my life like at the age of this and that i will be this and that kind of thing. almost everything turned out the way i hope for.
23. i miss my family and very close friends back in the phils. i also miss my wife's relatives in Oz; same with my nephew and his family in london.
24. my wife and my daughter are my life. i always look forward going home after a long day. i try (my hardest) to leave everything work related in the office.
25. i shop for same style of clothes but in different colors (including shoes). i dont buy clothes and shoes at full price.

i actually added some more after i got some comments. here it goes:
25.1 i am hoping that mazi will grow up to be very close with her cousins.
25.2 i am hoping to do a lot of road trips (like driving to the US and canada) and travel to different countries.
25.3 i am hoping to have at least once every two years out of town/country trips with my wife.

wow, it is kinda long. i will post mom's in the next entry.

so, do you know dad better now?

love you,

dad
